RCBC History
The Greater White Rock Baptist Church was organized on June 13, 1956. It was incorporated in accordance with policies and procedures of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in December of 1956 as a nonprofit corporation. The organization of the church was done under the leadership of the pastor at the time, Reverend C.C. Sharp, and seventy (70) members.
On October 1, 1957, the required settlement was made for the Church, the properties at 5529-5539 Market Street, and the Parsonage at 19 North 56th Street. Reverend O.M. Locust followed Reverend Sharp as the pastor of Greater White Rock Baptist Church. He, the church officers, and the members united and cooperated to form a ministry that began to make great strides and progress toward spreading the gospel. The officers were Deacons James Kimble, Theodore Denkins, and William Johnson. Deacon and Trustees were Tafy Singleton, Willie Kittrels, Norman Tyree, Haston Thornton, Troy Dupree, and Solomon Walker. Dock Budd and Gwendolyn Carter were the church superintendent and church clerk, respectively. Pattie Tyree served as financial secretary and Willie Kittrels as the church treasurer.
The goal of the church has been and continues to be the ongoing restoring of souls, along with the passion, integrity, and wholeness of Christ. Several pastors were called to Greater White Rock Baptist church between 1960 and 1976 to carry out the mission of providing a spiritual experience that bridges generations. Among these great preachers were Reverend O.M. Locust, Reverend J.H. Williams, Reverend M.M. Peace Jr., and Reverend D.H. Salmons. In June of 1976, Reverend Dr. Raymond L. Lassiter Jr. Was called to pastor Greater White Rock Baptist Church. In June of 1997, Reverend George L. Blount Jr. was appointed interim pastor from July 1997 unit June of 1998. In June of 1998, the officers and members unanimously voted to appoint Reverend George L. Blount Jr. as the seventh (7) pastor of Greater White Rock Baptist Church.
The Reverend Doctor George L. Blount Jr. accepted the calling and challenge to preach and pastor Greater White Rock Baptist Church with great enthusiasm and confidence. The late renowned Reverend Doctor Leon H. Sullivan licensed him at the Zion Baptist Church.
After laboring for over 15 years, Pastor Blount was moved by the Spirit of Christ and the opportunity to change the name to The Rock Community Baptist Church and its new location to 17 E. Lacrosse Ave, Lansdowne, PA 19050 on February 14, 2022. The celebration with the new name and location was blessed by former Pastor Rev. Dr. Raymond L. Lassiter, Jr. of Antioch Baptist Church, Hampton, Va. And Pastor Dr. William J. Shaw, the afternoon preacher from White Rock Baptist Church, on June 12, 2022.
Pastor Blount is excited about the transition that the church is making, even during Covid. God is Good All the time.
